My Favourite Meditation book is Bhagavan Ramana answers by A.R.Natarajan.

I liked the book for it's simple question and answer format and practical help for seekers.

Bhagavan Ramana is known as Ramana Maharishi in India where I live. He is the epitome of simplicity and compassion. Right from his younger days he was not interested in worldly life, which he thought was full of ego and selfishness. He left his home at a young age in search of true knowledge. And he succeeded too.

Later in his life he became a yogi and lived in a cave on a hillock on the famous Thiruvannamalai in the state of Tamilnadu, in southern India. The place is beautiful and serene and provided the peaceful setting for his yogic life.

There is also an Ashram where people from all walks of life come to meditate.

This book is useful for people who are interested in self discovery and also helps people who want to add a little spirituality in their lives. It covers about 50 questions. Maharishi's answers are practical and keep in mind the real needs of seekers.

What is Meditation?

The book tells us what is commonly understood by the word meditation. According to Maharishi self-enquiry is one of the means to meditate when in a natural state of mind. Normally meditation is practiced by fixing a particular image or a thought.

Meditation means expelling the continuous chain of thoughts which come up when you close your eyes. We should try and hold on to one thought and keep expelling others to achieve concentration.

If this cannot be done we can meditate on God. There are so many images of God and any one can be chosen. We then keep concentrating on that image. We can also light a lamp and keep looking at the flame and chant "om".

All the Maharishi's answers are filled with compassion and will help the seeker..I would recommend this book for a true seeker.
