Body Meditation

by Molly E
(Maine, US)

One afternoon we had a body meditation lesson in my psychology class.

We started with stretching. Then we were told sit on the floor, close our eyes, and listen the teacher.

She was saying things like, "Imagine all stress and negative energy flowing through your toes". Then she would wait about 2 minutes and move on to the heels. Then the legs. Then thighs, and so on.

Then I realized why this was going to take 40 minutes!

I had never really been into meditation, as it had never really worked for me. But it was part of the class and I had to do it.

The Best Stress Release?

The type of meditation we were doing with her wasn't really working for me either. The floor had the thinnest carpets thrown on top of cement, and it was really unpleasant to sit on. Especially for that long.

I was trying though. There wasn't much else to do besides meditate in a dead silent room with my eyes closed.

Once we got up to the stress and negative energy coming out of our elbows, someone thought it would be funny to make a farting noise. The entire class cracked up at once. It doesn't seem that funny now, but apparently it was at the time.

The good long laugh took more stress from me than her meditation technique did anyway. Molly E
