Concentrative meditation

I practice Concentrative meditation. This form or meditation focuses on breathing, sound or mantra, or an image. This helps to clear the mind therefore allowing a greater level of awareness and clarity.

Breathing Meditation

One of the easiest ways to concentrate is to focus on breathing. It is believed by meditation and yoga experts that there is a link between breathing and your state of mind. If someone is scared or upset their breathing will be erratic. If they are calm their breathing will be more regular.

So if you focus on your breathing it can in turn have an effect on your state of mind.

I first looked into practicing meditation because it’s been proven as an alternative therapy for many different ailments. Some doctors are even starting to recommend meditation as part of their recommended treatments for their patients. It’s been proven to help everything from asthma, stress, insomnia, to helping lower blood pressure.

Meditation for Insomnia

I personally looked into meditation because I suffer from insomnia. I bought a few books to learn the proper technique and within a few weeks my insomnia improved immensely. I assume it’s partly due to the fact that meditation helps relieve daily stresses. So it has made me calmer and less stressed during the day so in return I sleep better at night.

At first it was a little challenging to be able to focus enough to meditate properly. But after trying a few times it just kept getting easier. I would recommend meditation to anyone who is having stress related issues. It has made getting restful nights sleep possible again and has made me feel more at peace.

I now meditate on a regular basis and will continue to do so. It’s much more effective for my insomnia than sleeping pills and it’s much better for my health.
