Is meditation easy? Or is a strain?

Why couldn't it be effortless?

We all want to feel less stressed, calmer and happier- don't we? And I've just got through saying how modern meditation is a simple and effective way to do just that.

So you might think great! Lets really go for it. Pull out all the stops, and meditate as hard as I can. The more effort I put in the faster I'll get there-right?

Wrong!

If we push, strain and make grand efforts to meditate perfectly we're more likely to go backwards rather than forwards.

And the more we hold on to an expectation of how meditation should be the less likely it is to be like that. So don't expect to feel calm or relaxed when you mediate.

The secret is to relax and let go. You'll get the best results when you don't expect the easy techniques to be a certain way. Just let whatever happens happen.

Here are the essential attitudes for easy meditation ...

  • Have no expectations
  • Make no effort
  • Have an attitude of childlike innocence
