Full Catastrophe Living By Jon Kabat-Zinn

(Bangalore, India)

I recently read ‘Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of the Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain and Illness’ by Jon Kabat-Zinn.

It's a great book which tells you simply how to meditate instead of mystifying it like many other books. The author has a very gentle approach. And I think the tools in the book can bring peace of mind for anyone who uses them.

The book tell you how to include meditation in your daily life. How to bring mindfulness to any situation. Actually its taken directly from the eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course at the Stress Reduction Clinic of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. So if you have stress or health problems it'll really help.

How Full Catastrophe Living Can Help You

The book concentartes on the relationship between stress and your health. It teaches you to reduce stress using a simple step-by-step process.

Then Kabat-Zinn explains several meditation techniques like yoga, body scan and even sitting and walking meditation. You can choose the form depending on your life-style and health issues.

Mindfulness is the key to stress reduction according to the author and he teaches you how to use it through the challenges of life. It helped me to understand meditation and how to include it in my life. I was also able to control my blood pressure to quite an extent!

Meditation - Benefits

It is true that anyone following the program will benefit a lot from it. It requires a strong commitment but the benefits are worth it. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to start meditating. I would also rate it 8 out of ten.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy NEW
by: Mike Skinner

Hi Nidhi

Thanks for your review!

Full Catastrophe Living was what really got me into meditation so I agree it's a great book.

Mindfulness and "Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction" are spreading quickly now. Partly due to the mindfulness based stress reduction courses that Kabat-Zinn started.

I did the mindfulness based cognitive therapy course a few years ago. It makes you approach everything in a different way. I'll certainly never eat a raisin the same way again! (Have a look at Eating Meditation to see what I mean)
