Holiday Stress

The holidays are normally a stressful time of year. There is already enough to worry about, but we seem to find a way to add to the stress every year.

Over the past few years my family has seen a parent die on Christmas morning. And both my spouse and I have spent Christmas day in the emergency room due to life threatening illnesses. But we have managed to survive them all.

This Christmas we hoped would be different. My wife and I were trying to have another child and in late November found out we were pregnant.

We decided to wait until Christmas morning to tell everyone. This was very hard to do, but we knew it would make the best Christmas present for everyone. We gave everyone in our family a card on Christmas morning with the good news. It was a joyous Christmas.

Two days after Christmas my wife noticed some problems and we found out a few days later that she had miscarried. The pressure was immense. Holidays were losing their joy for us. But we decided that we would not let the disappointments of the holidays detract from our happiness. We went to a doctor who specializes in problem pregnancies and found out what caused the miscarriage. It was resolved with medical treatment and we were able to get pregnant again.

The Future

My wife has gotten past the tricky first trimester and we are looking forward to the addition to the family. Christmas will be fun this year with our new addition. If something happens again, that will not stop us from trying.

Things do happen and you can’t let them bring you down.
