Pranayama

I recommend doing Pranayama breathing meditation. I like this for several reasons.

I have read some scientific research saying males breath through their right nostril and females through their left. So the breathing meditation makes your breathing balanced.

How I do Pranayama Mediation

Initially, inhale through one nostril, close it, exhale through the other. Now inhale through this nostril, close this and exhale through this other.

After 6 months of doing this, one can switch to the next step where the breath is held for sometime on inhale and freed after a minute through exhale. This breathing exercise, Pranayama, helps one to get rid of sinus problems if performed continuously. This I have learnt from a local guru and been successful in performing it.

Pranayama Gives You a Calm Quiet Mind

Initially, I could not concentrate on the inhales and exhales. Now, my mind is very calm and quiet with this exercise. I perform this twice a day. Certainly I would recommend this asana for those with a disturbed mind and need a good meditation.

What is Pranayama? NEW
by: Mike

Thanks for that Sandeep. Good page!

Pranayama is an ancient Yogic breathing technique designed to have a powerful calming effect on the mind. This allows you to meditate better. It removes some of the hindrances we usually experience - like agitation, boredom or lethargy. This makes it easier for us to really see. To get to the root of meditation.

Interestingly Pranayama actually means "breath restraint". So it starts off with shallow breathing and breath holds not deep breathing as we're often told.

The deep breathing you might see Yogis doing is more of an advanced technique. But their breathing is still reduced because the practitioner breathes so infrequently (maybe once a minute).

This process is very similar to the Buteyko Method - which has startling effects on mind and body. You can read all about it at Buteyko Method my 30 Day Challenge.
