Shirsha Asana

by Vignesh
(India)

This exercise is called the king of all asanas. Shirsha in Sanskrit means head. In this asana one should stand on his or her head.

I like This Pose Because

1.Shirsha asana improves memory power.
2.It helps one maintain Brahmacharya (The vow of celibacy).
2.It is an aid to transfer sex-energy into spiritual energy (Ojas Shakti).
3.It provides our brains with pure blood supply so they are well activated.
4.It helps us remove any defects of the liver.
5.It helps to tone our nervous systems.
6.It gives us a strong mind.
7.It makes the body fresh and relaxed.

Procedure:

You should place a blanket on the floor in front of you. Kneel down. Then rest the forearms on the blanket with the fingers interlocked. Bend the head as the top of the skull will be resting on the blanket at the apex or the triangle formed by the interlocked fingers.

Straighten your knees so that the extended legs will be resting on the toes. Then balance the weight of your body carefully on your head and walk towards head till your legs begins to lift. As your legs are raised, bend your knees so that your thighs will be pressing against the body counterbalancing and preventing the body from leaning forward. Now your body is inverted, supported on your head between the triangle of the forearms.

Special Tips
1.Your blanket should be soft.
2.Do not strain your body parts by using them in the wrong way.
3.Follow the procedure correctly.

Yoga is essential to keep off mental and physical ailments. This is a gift to protect us from our faulty system of living.
