Work and Menopause Stress
by R. Priya
How I Dealt with Work and Menopause StressI am a 50 year old corporate professional. I have always been punctual and disciplined. I do not like to make compromises when it comes to work. But during my menopause I started suffering from a number of mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. I had constant joint and back pain and I just could not concentrate on my work. I talked to a friend of mind, who is a physiotherapist and she said all I need to do was to take some time out for myself. I decided to do exactly that. Work Stress - What I DidSo I made a worksheet and incorporated a number of activities that I had given up due to my work. I decided to do things that make me happy and started meeting up old friends and attending more social functions than my work every allowed me to. I also started visiting spas and getting regular relaxing massages once a week. I rediscovered by childhood hobby of painting and it did help miraculously. I also joined a group of corporate women, who were undergoing similar problems. I learned that meditation is a very good way out of menopausal stress. I was told that meditation helps re-balance hormones usually disturbed during the menopause. It actually helped with controlling my mood swings and anxiety. Meditation and CompassionMeditation also helped me to rediscover a whole new me that was more peaceful than ever before. It helped me develop compassion for things other than my work. I started enjoying little things that I would have ignored otherwise. Getting over menopausal stress was not an easy task but persistence and support from my family as well as my group helped not just helped me out of it but also helped me attain inner peace in general. I am back to my old work in an entirely new light and I am loving my life right now. |
