Yoga The Poetry of the Body
by Swati Agrawal
Yoga includes many meditation practices. In ‘Yoga: The Poetry of the Body’ Rodney Yee and Nina Zolotow describe most of them very well. And it's an ideal book for beginners because the basic yoga poses are all covered in a detailed manner. (Infact they're broken down into step-by-step guide to 8 complete yoga practices).'Real Life' YogaRodney Lee is an experienced and well reputed Yoga instructor - and it shows. Particularly in the real life experiences of Rodney Yee from his time as a Yoga teacher - which I really enjoyed. I also liked the way he described our relationship with our bodies and the abilities of the human body. Even to meditating in the same place for many weeks, months or years without any food or water. Yoga - Body Mind and SoulThe book also has a lot of poetry and discussions which are thought provoking - and illustrated with many lovely photographs. But I think he could have given more insight into his understanding of Yoga. I think I understand the philosophy behind Yoga and how it affects body, mind and soul. But I would have liked more from Rodney Yee on this. So although this book is good for beginners, I would have to say it is not that useful or enlightening for those who are already familiar with Yoga. This book helped me when I started learning meditation through Yoga and I will recommend it to beginners. Overall, I will rate this book as 6 out of 10. |
